Relationship between India-Australia?
Australia and India have diplomatic relations. Because they’re both members of the British Empire, they referred to it as a “Holistic Strategic Alliance.” Both are Republic of Nations members. There are also mutual political, economic, military, geographical, and sporting ties. Cricket, like the English language, has arisen as a significant culture between both countries as a result of British occupation. The regular combined naval exercise between Australia and India is an example of their military cooperation. (AUSINDEX)
After India got Independence:
Following WWII, Ben Chifley’s Australian government is supporting India’s freedom from Britain as a border against communists. Later, during Robert Menzies, Australia backed India’s entry to the Federation as a republic. Menzies was the first Australian Prime Minister to visit India, meeting with Governor-General Chakravarti Rajagopalachari and Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in 1950.
About students and universities:
Many Indian students were funded to come to Australia to study as part of the Colombo Plan in the 1950s and 1960s. Following the relaxation of restrictions on immigration in the late 1960s, an influx of non-European Indians, particularly experts, migrated to Australia. The largest source of permanent migration to Australia in 2011–12 was Indians. Australia is also the 2nd most common destination for Indian university students, with almost 60,000 Indians residing in Australia on visa applications in 2017.
Post-independence, Australia kept diplomatic relations with both India and Pakistan, despite India’s concerns about weapons shipments across the border, such as the sale of 50 Mirage fighter jets and parts in 2007.
Australia is a fantastic nation to visit, with everything from contemporary, opulent capital cities to rustic country communities. However, when it comes to education, Australia is said to be one of the most popular locations. Once the prerequisites are completed, the process of applying for a study visa in Australia for Indian students is easy.
India and Australian relation in Sports:
Professional cricket is a popular sport in both Commonwealth countries. During their homecoming to Australia for demilitarisation in 1945, the Australian Forces cricket team toured India and played against the Indian cricket team. Those matches, however, were not accorded Test status. Following India’s independence in 1947, the two countries played their first Test matches in 1947–48, when India traveled to Australia and played five Tests. The Australian Board of Control didn’t welcome the Indians back for another two decades after winning 4–0, believing that a series of one-sided matches would result in huge financial losses due to a lack of fan engagement. Meanwhile, in late 1956, 1959–60, and 1964–65, Australia toured India.
Australia only traveled to India twice for Tests between 1970 and 1996. However, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India has grown in financial strength, Australia, the world’s leading cricketing nation, has wanted more frequent matches. For the past decade, test series have happened every two years, with one-day series occurring even more regularly. Talented young Indian cricketers are also offered scholarships to train at the Australian Cricket Academy.
Defense between India and Australia:
The 2006 Agreement on Mutual Legal assistance and the 2009 Joint Declaration on Security Cooperation establish positive defense ties between Australia and India. The defense cooperation has developed to include a variety of platforms for strategic engagement, as well as frequent encounters between our respective departments through senior visits, staff talks, and training exchanges, after the signing of a bilateral Framework for Security Cooperation in 2014.
Military ties between India and Australia date back to before independence, when Indian troops fought beside Australian forces in several operations, among both World Wars, especially the 15,000 Indian soldiers fighting alongside Australians at Gallipoli. Australia and India also hold a cooperative naval exercise named AUSINDEX every two years in the Indian Ocean. AUSINDEX focussed on anti-submarine warfare in 2019.
In reaction to the Sino-Indian War in 1963, Australia pledged military aid to India upon independence. In the Indian Ocean, India and Australia recently participated in Malabar 2007, a combined naval exercise with the United States and Japan.

India and Australia have had a vast relationship since the 90s even after having many ups and downs about religion, climate, and what not one thing that has not have changed is their bond and friendly environment within both countries. If you haven’t traveled to both countries then I suggest you should go and check the beauty of both countries regardless of the fact. Also Indian business in Australia is an amazing idea to check out for more.
